Happiest DVD On The Block

In preparation for Julian, Jennifer and I had bought a slew of books. One of which was, The Happiest Baby On The Block, by Dr. Harvey Karp. Karp’s method of calming a newborn is summed up in something he calls the 5 S’s, “Swaddling”, holding the baby on his “side”, saying “shhh” in the baby’s ear, “swinging” and “sucking”. After reading the first few chapters of the book we felt like we had a good understanding of the concepts. However, after hearing numerous recommendations of the DVD we decided to see what all the fuss was about. I can now easily say this is a DVD every first time parent should see. Watching the methods performed on actual newborns in the DVD was incredible. There is also a really great Q&A section that answered a lot of questions I had in general. Even if you just watch the video to learn the basics of swaddling, you’ll be sure to gain numerous extra hours of much needed sleep.
